Multicultural Festival
Posted on Sep 17th, 2015

At our first annual Multicultural Festival, 15 volunteers and a handful of contest entrants took center stage, displaying food, drink, and items of cultural significance from Nigeria, Honduras, India, Italy, Alger, and the USA.  The association also hosted a very talented Henna artist, who showed off her work for residents with intricate designs on the hand and arm.   The roughly 75 attendees were also treated to a local young lady with the voice of an angel and several traditional songs and dances from a Honduran Folk Group.  Special thanks goes out to each one of our volunteers and their families, especially social committee members Ivonne Garcia and Mala Shekar, who went above and beyond to gift the community a really interesting and informative event.  Stacey Coberley planned a wonderful craft table for the kids that included "Chinese" drums and creating their own flag.  Other volunteers donated time setting up, running the event, cleaning up, and also by donating supplies (including our sound system).

The cooking contest entrants served food all evening and the POA Board judges were so impressed that they could not choose a winner and rewarded all 5 entries with a $50 gift card.  Thank you to all who entered!

We would also like to send a thanks to the local vendors who helped round out our event.  Diana Brown set up shop outside the clubhouse with her unique handmade Columbian jewelry and the proprietor of the Baskin Robbins offered ice cream to residents at a discount.  Entouch provided water and trash cans.

We look forward to sharing this event with residents next year and we appreciate any feedback attendees would like to share!
